Fan Translation Policy
Tamberlane is blessed to have quite an international audience, and as a result, many wonderful fans want to be able to host translations in other languages. Unfortunately, due to many reasons, our official policy is that we do not allow that.
- Rehosting the comic creates the impression that it is an officially approved outlet and translation. Even with clear messaging that says it's fan-translated, pages will be reposted elsewhere by others, and not everyone pays attention to the words on a website.
- Tamberlane is a very dense comic that tackles tricky, sensitive topics, and we would need to vet all the translations to make sure that all of our intentions and nuances are properly conveyed. We do not have the time or energy to do that, nor the money to hire trusted translators and go through the lengthy process of making sure it's up to snuff.
- It is very easy for the topics in the comic to be misrepresented, and mistaken impressions will reflect back on us as the comic creators.
- Finally, by hosting the comic elsewhere, attention and revenue is diverted away from our project.
We recognize this answer sucks. We are well aware of how frustrating it can be to try to read a comic in a language that is not your own, and in a perfect world, we'd love to allow rehosted fan-translated comics. I wish that we could trust that anyone who wanted to do this would do so in good faith and with perfect translation skills. Unfortunately, this just isn't the case.
The best we can offer at the moment is the use of our transcript system, which allows you to submit translations for each page and have it show up beneath the comic. You can find a link for submitting a transcript below each page. We are working on other solutions that are less of a headache to use when reading, but for now the transcripts are what we have.
Thank you so much for your interest and passion!
